The Gordon Police department is located at 311 1/2 North Oak Street with officer hours of Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturdays 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Gordon City Libraryoffers a current, popular collection of fiction and non-fiction for all ages, 300 volumes of large print books and books-on-tape. The reference area provides useful, up-to-date resources. A lounge area is provided for reading and relaxation. The library offers an inter-library loan service through which patrons can obtain titles not held locally. Programming for children includes a summer reading program and preschoolers' story hour once a month through the school year. Health Care:
Gordon's medical community is large enough to provide high quality care and small enough to be personal.
Located in Gordon, Nebraska, Gordon Memorial Hospital is a progressive, Critical Access Hospital. With 25 acute care beds, 24-hour CT, X-ray, Lab, and ER services, we are proud to serve our community. Our service area includes most of Sheridan County and part of Cherry County in Nebraska, and portions of southwestern South Dakota. The hospital also operates the rural Gordon Clinic, and Rushville clinic, along with numerous specialized clinics.
Gordon has three board-certified physicians, two physician assistants, and one nurse practitioner supported by a full range of laboratory, radiology, therapeutic, pharmaceutical, surgical, intensive care and emergency services through its close association with the hospital and surgeons. The Clinic provides regular visits to the Gordon Countryside Care Nursing Home and the Parkview Lodge Nursing Home in Rushville, 15 miles away. (Both state-accredited facilities.) The Gordon Countryside Care Nursing Home is owned and operated by the Gordon Memorial Hospital. The facility has 46 nursing facility beds, 4 residential rooms and one apartment. Services include adult day care, respite care and whirlpool bath service. Van service is available to the community for a fee. For more information call 308-282-0806.
Northeast Panhandle Substance Abuse Center (NEPSAC) is a six bed in-patient partial care alcohol and drug services facility. NEPSAC offers outpatient services and referrals for alcohol and drug problems and offers Women's AA meetings on Monday, other AA meetings Tuesdays and Fridays and Narcotics Addiction meetings on Thursdays. For more information call 308-282-1101. The Gordon Hospital is also host to a monthly Veterans Administration Health Clinic, managed and staffed by the Black Hills VA Medical Center.
Gordon Head Start
Located at the Episcopal Jubilee Center at 116 Lariat Street. This program is designed for income eligible and handicapped children three through four years of age. Head start strives to build an environment that helps each child gain ethnic pride and a positive self concept, and enhances individual strengths and social relationships. Health, education, social services, mental health and nutrition services are provided to head start children and their families. The program follows the local schools schedule. Gordon Elementary School
The elementary school is located on the corner of 500 West Second Street. Our school is accredited by the Nebraska State Department of Education and the North Central Association of College and Secondary Schools. The school is organized around the self contained classrooms, using resource personnel to assist the classroom teacher according to the students needs. In addition to the basic academic curriculum, special education, remedial reading and speech therapy are available. Electives include vocal and instrumental music, the "D.A.R.E." and "Just Say No" programs. The school has an excellent library and hot lunches are served daily. For more information call 308 282-0216
Gordon-Rushville - Senior High School
The school is located at 810 North Oak Street. The school is accredited by the Nebraska State Department of Education and the North Central Association of Colleges and secondary schools. The school is organized departmentally by subject area, using a seven period schedule. High school graduation calls for 200 credit hours, involving required study of English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education and Health. Numerous electives are available for satisfying these requirements. Students may enroll in the gifted program, special education and speech therapy, as well as classes in the field of Technology, Speech, and Instrument and Vocal music, Spanish, Business, Vocational Agriculture, Art and Computers. Among the extra - curricular activities are Knowledge - Master, National Academic Olympiad, Drama, Cheerleaders, Drug Awareness, boy and girls inter scholastic Sports, National Honor Society and Journalism. There are forty plus full/part time instructors, teachers aides, administrators and support staff at all levels. College bound seniors may apply for a variety of scholarships, many of them provided by organizations or individuals of the Gordon community.
