A Message from City Manager Fred Hlava
As City Manager I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Gordon! The village of Gordon was incorporated on November 19, 1885 and has grown into a second class city with a population of approximately 1,800. There are four parks, public tennis courts, and four ball parks. In addition a heated outdoor public swimming pool is open from late May until August. The auditorium of the handicap accessible Municipal Building provides an indoor basketball court and stage area for plays and concerts. The Gordon City Library was built in 1987 and is a modern state accredited facility.
The Gordon Volunteer Rescue Squad has three fully equipped ambulances, and twenty one personnel serving the emergency medical needs of Gordon and the surrounding area. The Gordon Volunteer Fire Department’s highly qualified 40 member roster provides fire protection for the city of Gordon. Twenty four hour law enforcement coverage and crime prevention programs are managed by the community minded Gordon Police Department.
Gordon has a city manager-council form of government. The Council is made up of the Mayor and four Council members, who set policy, approve budgets and generally oversee the conduct of government within the City. Council meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers located in the Municipal building.
